Bleeding Following Breast Augmentation

cosmetic surgery meaning

There are a few simple steps that you can follow to treat bleeding from breast augmentation. Your surgeon is the first thing to do. The surgeon can perform a draining procedure to remove the blood pooling, as well as reduce swelling and pain. They can then give a blood thinner to prevent more blood loss.

Hematoma

Late occurrences of hematomas following breast augmentation are rare. It is difficult to pinpoint the cause, but it has been suggested that the hematoma may be caused by a polyurethane implant and friction forces between prosthesis surface (and surrounding tissue). Ibrahim et al. Willens and colleagues reported late hematoma cases in women who underwent bilateral submuscular silicone breast augmentation. Late bleeding has been reported in cases ranging from nine to 38 years following breast augmentation.

Although it can be painful, the condition isn't usually serious and will resolve on its own. Avoid strenuous activities and sleep on your back to minimize swelling. A second operation may be required to drain the hematoma in severe cases.

Seroma

After breast augmentation, symptoms of seroma bleeding include swelling, pain, and possibly discharge. These symptoms typically appear between seven to ten days after surgery. Seromas that are left untreated can dissolve in a matter of months. However, more severe cases may take longer. In extreme cases, surgery may be required to remove the erma. You can still manage your symptoms at home.

A disruption in the blood supply can lead to seroma formation. The disruption of the blood supply causes tissue loss, also known as necrosis. There are many surgical options that can cause seroma bleeding at different rates.

Post-operative bleeding

Minor bleeding is normal after breast augmentation and should not be a cause of alarm. Though excessive bleeding is something to be aware of, it's rare. It is best to cover any bloody areas on your clothes with a tissue after the surgery. Normal bleeding is caused by blood leaking from the incision. Contact your doctor if there is excessive blood.

Multiple factors could be responsible for post-operative bleeding. Post-operative bleeding can be caused by several factors. You can avoid post-operative bleeding by wearing compression garments that help restrict movement and place pressure on the wound site. Your surgeon may have to stitch the bleeding vessels if you experience severe bleeding. You are also more likely to experience bleeding if your skin is prone to bruising. You should not take aspirin or any blood-thinning medication for at least two weeks prior to and after your surgery.

Treatment

After breast augmentation, infection can become a serious problem. If the infection becomes too severe, the surgeon will take out the implant. The surgeon will then wait three to six more months before inserting another one. The costs for the procedure include the costs to treat infection. Patients should understand that some asymmetry can be expected following the procedure. However symmetry cannot be achieved.

It is quite common to have bleeding from the breasts. This can be treated with a reduction in blood pressure. Most cases will resolve themselves, but persistent bleeding may require a second procedure to drain the hematoma.
